“After the end of the season we are sure to invite all the winners to the Ministry of Sports to praise them,” said Mutko.

The Russian national team skaters performed well at the World Championships in Chinese Shanghai, shared his opinion Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko.

The Russian national team got two World Championships medals: Yelizaveta Tuktamysheva won gold, newcomer Yelena Radionova clinched bronze.

“No matter how many points our skaters got at the Championships; I believe that they performed okay, even fine. We have to understand that the tournament was held in a post Olympic season. I can speak with great pleasure about our girls’ performance. Excellent! I would like to congratulate Liza with this brilliant victory. After the end of the season we are sure to invite all the winners to the Ministry of Sports to praise them,” admitted the Minister.

Mutko stressed that except the duet Yuko Kawaguchi and Alexander Smirnov only young skaters took part in pairs skating.

“Except Yuko Kawaguchi and Alexander Smirnov only young skaters took part in pairs skating, as the team leaders Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov missed the season due to the latter’s injury; Kseniya Stolbova and Fyodor Klimov decided to devote the end of the season to new programs with complicated elements. I’m sure we’ll regain leadership in pairs skating. There was no failure, although I would like, of course, Sasha and Yuko to have performed better,” explained the TASS interlocutor.

In ice dancing, according to Mutko, the lost quota for the next World Championships will soon be compensated. The sum of the two best Russian duets’ places was more than 13, and only two duets will represent the country at the World Championships in Boston.

Yelizaveta Tuktamysheva brought to the Russian team the first gold in women’s figure skating from the 2005 World Championships.

“The leading pair Yekaterina Bobrova / Dmitry Solovyov was forced to miss the World Championships because of Dmitry’s knee surgery. As for the new pair Yelena Ilyinykh and Ruslan Zhiganshin, they have performed together less than a year. It would be wrong to wait them to win so quickly. But they tried very hard at their first Championships. And although only two duets will represent the country at the next World Championships, we’ll compensate this failure. I have no doubts,” added the Minister of Sports.

Maxim Kovtun and Sergey Voronov, according to Mutko, are unstable this season.

“If we talk about men’s figure skating, now we have two top skaters: Kovtun and Voronov. Both are unstable at the moment. I hope Kovtun will recover composure and draw appropriate conclusions, and next season will not repeat the same mistakes.”

The next World Championships will be held in Boston, US.
