Teams of Belarus and Brazil to open XI AMF Futsal World Championships held in Minsk

Today the match between Belarus and Brazil will open the XI AMF Futsal World Championships at the Minsk-Arena, BelTA informs.

The opening ceremony of the planetary futsal forum will be followed by the first meeting that begins at 19.00 local time. The schedule of the other preliminary matches of Group A is the following:

April 18

Uruguay - Australia (17.00, Minsk Palace of Sports)

April 19

Brazil - Australia (16.00, Molodechno, Ice Palace)

Belarus - Uruguay (17.00, Minsk Palace of Sports)

20 April

Uruguay - Brazil (18.00, Minsk Palace of Sports)

Belarus - Australia (20.00, Minsk Sports Palace)

About 80% of the tickets for the matches of the Futsal World Championships are sold.

According to head coach of the Belarusians Sergey Safronov, the team is able to reach the playoffs, although their rivals, especially Latinos, are very strong and will also fight for the victory. The most titled opponent is Brazil; they are two-time World Championships winners (1982, 1985). Uruguay has silver medals of the 1997 World Championships; Australians have not yet achieved great success in the international arena, but they can upset any opponent. The Belarusian team is a four-time quarter-finalist (World Championships in 1997, 2007, 2011) and a two-time European winner (2004, 2014); moreover, Belarusians clinched a European bronze in 2008. For these achievements current coach of the national team Sergey Safonov was awarded the title of Honored Coach of Belarus.

After the group matches, the winner of Group A will play in the quarterfinals against the second team of Group B; and Group B winner will compete with the second team of Group A. Group B includes teams from Paraguay, Belgium, Norway and Morocco. These teams will hold their matches in Minsk, Molodechno and Borisov.

Other group compositions:

Group C (Brest) - Colombia, Czech Republic, Venezuela, Curacao;

Group D (Pinsk) - Argentina, Russia, Slovakia, Kyrgyzstan.

After the group stage they will play the quarterfinals in the following way: C1-D2, C2-D1.

The quarterfinal matches will be held on April 22 in Minsk Palace of Sports and in Brest Sports Complex “Victoria”. The semi-finals (April 24) and gold and bronze medal matches (April 25) will be held at the Minsk-Arena.

The World Championships organizers decided to hold the tournament in five cities to allow foreign visitors and fans to get acquainted with Belarus and its sports infrastructure. Participants and guests of the 2015 Championships have all the necessary conditions for playing and having a rest. Like in the 2014 World Ice Hockey Championships, spectators will be able to use hospitality areas to relax, have meals, listen to music, and chat with colleagues from other countries. AMF Futsal World Championships Organizing Committee Chairman, First Vice-President of the Belarusian National Olympic Committee Maxim Ryzhenkov notes that the upcoming competition is of high interest in all the host cities. The most popular matches with fans are those of the Belarusian team and gold and bronze medal matches.
