St. Petersburg Open plans to invite at least 2 ATP Top-10 tennis players


At least two ATP Top-10 tennis players will be invited to St. Petersburg Open this year, announced Medvedev.

After a one-year break the city of Petersburg will host the anniversary 20th ATP-250 competition St. Petersburg Open. The tournament’s owners delegated the rights to organize it during 5 next years to the sociocultural and sports club “Gazpromeksport” that is headed by Alexander Medvedev. The agreement was signed in St. Petersburg. Medvedev will be a new tournament director, and Sydney’s Olympic champion Evgeny Kafelnikov will be responsible for tennis player’s participation.

“We’ll invite at least two Top-10 players. Evgeny Kafelnikov will deal with that,” announced Medvedev.

According to Kafelnikov, they plan to give wild cards to Russian young tennis players.

St. Petersburg Open starts in September 21-27.
