French biathlete presented his gold medal to Russian fan


French biathlete Martin Fourcade, who won a sprint race at the World Championships in Khanty-Mansiysk, presented his gold medal to a Russian fan. This information is given by the “F-Sport” agency.

The girl stopped athlete on his way to the press conference and asked to take a picture with her. In response Fourcade took off his medal and gave it to the fan. “I think she’s happy to have such a gift, she’ll have not only memories, but also a trophy,” said Fourcade.

The biathlete explained that he often gives his awards to fans, except Olympic medals and the Crystal Globe that is the main trophy of the World Cup. In Khanty-Mansiysk the 26-year-old Fourcade clinched gold, winning the 10km sprint. Russian Anton Shipulin finished with silver, bronze went to German Benedikt Doll.

Fourcade practically secured the individual success of the World Cup 2014/15. He has 993 points, Shipulin comes second with 876 points. Before the end of the season the biathletes will have two races: a pursuit race (March 21) and a mass race (March 22). For the victory in each race one can get 60 points, for second place 54 points, and for third – 48.

Martin Fourcade is a two-time Olympic champion, six-time world champion and three-time winner of the World Cup.
