Darya Domracheva became best sportswoman of Olympic Games in Sochi in journalists’ viewpoint


The International Sports Press Association (AIPS) named the best sportsmen and sportswomen of the Sochi Olympics.

The Belarusian biathlete Darya Domracheva became the most successful athlete among women. She won three gold medals in the Olympics in Sochi and received 45% of votes. The second place went to the Slovenian downhill skier Tina Maze (she got two gold medals, 21% of votes), the Norwegian skier Marit Bjoergen was named the third (three gold medals, 7% of votes).

As for men, the Norwegian biathlete Ole Einar Bjoerndalen was named the best sportsman (he got two Olympic gold medals and 28% of journalists’ votes). He’s followed by the Russian short track speed skating athlete Viktor Ahn (three gold medals and one bronze medal, 27% of votes), the third was the French biathlete Martin Fourcade who won two gold and one silver medal (12% of votes).

Journalists said the best team was the male Dutch team in speed skating (gold in the team race).
