The Belarusian tennis players reached the Fed Cup World Group II, defeating Japan in Tokyo. The fate of the battle was determined only in the final deciding doubles epic in which Victoria Azarenka and Olga Govortsova clinched a victory over the Japanese.

On the first day Victoria Azarenka defeated the Japanese second seeded; Olga Govortsova lost to the Japanese leader in three sets and got an injury.

The second playing day started with the match Victoria Azarenka (ranked No.32) vs Kurumi Nara (No.53). Winning the rivalry 6:3, 6:3, Azarenka gave Belarus a 2-1 lead over Japan. The match lasted 1 h 30 min.

Then, according to the schedule, Olga Govortsova (ranked No.136) was to take the court. However, due to the injury the Belarusian was replaced by Aliaksandra Sasnovich (No.46). A change occurred in the Japanese team: Ayumi Morita (No.451) played instead of Misaki Doi (No. 107) and clinched a 7:6 (7:5),4:6, 6:4 win over Sasnovich.

Vera Lapko (doubles rankings - 811) and Aliaksandra Sasnovich (No.202) were to play the final double match against Shuko Aoyama (No.45) and Ayumi Morita (unranked).

But the Belarusian team used the right to make a replacement an hour before the match. As a result, the court was taken by Victoria Azarenka (ranked No.428 in doubles) and Olga Govortsova (No.203). The composition of the Japanese remained unchanged.

The Belarusians clinched a 6:3, 6:4 victory in 1h 29 min.

For Victoria Azarenka, the participation in doubles matches is a rarity. This year, she had only one such a match - in WTA Doha. Govortsova has also had few double matches this season. But at the beginning of their career (2009) Azarenka and Govortsova played together.

Thus, the final score of the meeting is 3:2 in favor of the Belarusian team.

In the team female rankings Belarus is on the19th place, Japanese occupy the 15th position.

Belarus reaches World Group II; Japan will play in Group One Asia/Oceania Zone next season.
