After first qualifying matches Belarusian football team moves up 15 spots in FIFA rankings

The football team of Belarus moves up 15 spots to 83rd place in the rankings of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), BelTA informs.

In March, Belarusian football players had two matches: in a Euro 2016 qualifying match they defeated Macedonia in Skopje (2:1), and drew the friendly match against Gabon in Belek, Turkey (0:0). These were first matches of the Belarusian national team trained by the new coaching staff headed by Alexander Khatskevich. Belarusians will play next games in summer. Now they have 397 points. In early June, they will play a friendly match (the opponent and the game place is yet to be determined), and on June 14 at Borisov-Arena they will face Spain in another qualifying match.

Belarusians’ opponents occupy the following positions in the March FIFA rankings: No. 10 - Spain (1,132 points), No. 20 - Slovakia (920), No. 33 - Ukraine (772), No. 105 - Macedonia (312), No. 137 - Luxembourg (200).

The former Soviet Union countries have the following FIFA positions: No. 32 - Russia (781), No. 73 - Uzbekistan (476), No. 77 - Armenia (449), No. 85 - Latvia (387), No. 93 - Estonia (358), No. 100 - Lithuania (333), No. 115 - Azerbaijan (264), No. 121 - Moldova (245), No. 133 - Kazakhstan (210), No. 138 - Georgia (197), No. 143 - Tajikistan (175), No. 153 - Kyrgyzstan (146), No. 159 - Turkmenistan (131).
