“Stroyindustriya-S” CEO arrested for unpaid wages to cosmodrome “Vostochny” builders

The contracting organization’s CEO, despite the fact that the company has assets, from January to mid-March has owed the workers more than 14 million rubles ($248,000 - ed).

Employees of the Investigative Committee of the Amur region arrested the “Stroyindustriya-S” CEO Sergey Terentyev on suspicion of unpaid wages to employees of his company, engaged in the construction of the cosmodrome “Vostochny”, Vladimir Markin, a representative of the Russian Investigative Committee under the Prosecutor’s Office told “Interfax”.

“Investigating authorities detained the “Stroyindustriya-S” CEO Sergey Terentyev. He is suspected of having committed a crime under Part. 2, Art. 145.1 of the Criminal Code (failure to pay wages for more than two months),” said Markin.

The “Stroyindustriya-S” Company is one of the organizations-contractors involved into the construction of cosmodrome “Vostochny” objects.

According to the investigators, Terentyev, knowing that the company has the necessary money, hasn’t paid his employees for January, February and the first half of March 2015. According to the available documents, the debt amount exceeded 14 million rubles.

“Thus, as the investigators suggest, Terentyev caused damage to his workers and violated their constitutional right to remuneration for work,” said Markin. He adds the investigation continues to establish all the circumstances of the crime.

As reported on March 24, employees of the “Stroyindustriya-S” Company suspended their work at the cosmodrome due to unpaid wages; last week they announced their intention to begin a hunger strike.

Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin after the media statements about the hunger strike talked on the phone to the workers who promised to end the strike after that phone call. “Guys promised to return to work. I will punish the offenders,” Rogozin twitted.

At the end of the last week the Dalspetsstroy management held a meeting with the workers and the management of the companies “Stroyindustriya-S” and “Ideal”, which resulted in developing a mechanism of the debt repayment until April 10.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor’s inspection revealed violations of the constitutional rights of the cosmodrome “Vostochny” workers and thus, the “Stroyindustriya-S” CEO was subjected to administrative responsibility for violation of labor laws. The prosecutor sent verification materials to the investigating authorities to address the issue of his criminal prosecution.

In turn, the Investigative Committee of the Amur region instituted a criminal case under article 145.1 of the Criminal Code (failure to pay wages for more than two months).

At the end of the last week it became known that the “Ideal” Company (the cosmodrome “Vostochny” contractor) terminated the contract with the “Stroyindustriya-S”, which employees went on strike due to unpaid wages.
