Russian cosmonauts to polish ISS portholes from outside

This summer during a spacewalk Russian cosmonauts will polish the portholes on the International Space Station, said yesterday at a TASS’s press conference the orbital station flight director Vladimir Solovyov.

He specified that the cosmonauts Gennady Padalka and Mikhail Kornienko would enter outer space in mid-June.

“Russian research organizations and the Tomsk University created special equipment for cleaning portholes,” admitted Solovyov.

“We will try to polish and clean several portholes. It’s an interesting job, especially for long flights,” he added, explaining that during long flights cavities and scratches appear at the portholes.
