Russian-Vietnamese talks involving Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev began in Hanoi

Before his visit to Vietnam, Medvedev said that the country is a strategic partner of Russia. For the past five years, the volume of trade between Russia and Vietnam has been steadily increasing; in 2013 the turnover amounted to $ 4 bln. In 2014, the turnover fell down to $ 3.8 bln. due to unfavorable macroeconomic conditions, the depreciation of the ruble and the completion of obligations under a number of contracts.

The talks were preceded by the official meeting between Medvedev and the Prime Minister of Vietnam Nguyen Tan Dung. The Russian Prime Minister welcomed the Vietnamese delegation by the presidential palace, after which the delegation members went to the office of the Government of Vietnam to negotiate

In addition, it is planned to hold talks in an expanded format, during which the parties will sign a number of bilateral agreements.

As previously reported, during his visit to Vietnam on April 6-7, Medvedev intends to discuss the issue of reciprocal payments for trade and investment operations in rubles and dongs. Earlier, he said that Russia and Vietnam should explore new forms of cooperation in oil and gas industry and expand it.
