Putin made speech at concert dedicated to anniversary of Crimea annexation

Russian President Vladimir Putin made a speech at the concert on Vasilyevsky Spusk of the Kremlin, dedicated to the anniversary of reunification the Crimea and Sevastopol with Russia.

“A year ago the Russian people showed remarkable composure, awesome patriotism in supporting citizens from the Crimea and Sevastopol to return to their native lands,” said Putin.

Then, added the President, all the people “understood and felt how important for us was to link generations and times, and how much our heroic ancestors did for our country.”

“We realize that the Crimea is not just a certain territory, even a strategically important one, it comprises millions of Russian people, millions of Russian compatriots who need our help and support. We understand how it’s important for us, we understand that it is not just about the territory, which we have enough, it’s about historical origins, the sources of our spirituality and national identity,” stated the President of the Russian Federation.

Putin highlighted that it’s all about “what makes us one single and united nation.”

“We will overcome all the problems and difficulties that are imposed from the outside. We will move ahead, we will strengthen our national identity and our country. We will overcome the difficulties that we so easily create for ourselves during the last time,” specified the President.

Putin also expressed confidence that the Ukrainian people would objectively evaluate those people who had got Ukraine to that point.

“We have always believed that Russian and Ukrainian are one nation. I think the same now. Of course, extreme nationalism is always harmful and dangerous. I am sure that the Ukrainian people would objectively evaluate activities of those people who had got the country to the state in which it is today,” he said.

“From our part we will do everything in our power to make Ukraine pass this difficult period in its development as quickly as possible, in order to re-establish inter-governmental relations,” concluded the President.

The patriotic concert “We are together!”, dedicated to anniversary of the Crimea entry to the Russian Federation, was held on Vasilyevsky Spusk near the Kremlin. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, at 17:00 the festive event attracted more than 110,000 people.

On March 18, 2014, the Russian President made an extraordinary appeal to the Federal Assembly, devoted to the Crimea annexation to Russia. Later in the Kremlin the President signed an agreement on the annexation of the Republic of Crimea to the Russian Federation and the creation of new subjects within the Russian Federation.
