Meeting between Alexander Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin

On February 8 Alexander Lukashenko, the President of Belarus, met the Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

Vladimir Putin stated that earlier he had negotiations with his colleagues from Kyiv, Berlin and Paris in the “Norman format”.

“We agreed to organize the similar meeting in Minsk,” said the Russian President. “Would you be so kind to support us with this meeting, as you did earlier, providing Minsk as a platform for meetings at the expert level,” addressed Putin to Lukashenko.

“I am in touch with the situation, I have had a phone call with Poroshenko some minutes ago,” admitted the Belarusian leader.

“I assure you, we’ll do the best to help improve the situation in Ukraine. All in all, Ukrainians are our close neighbors and we are not indifferent to their affairs,” said Lukashenko.

“Don’t worry about the meeting preparations in Minsk,” emphasized the Belarusian President.

Vladimir Putin thanked Alexander Lukashenko for his efforts to deal with the Ukrainian crisis. Furthermore, the state leaders discussed the integration process problems within the framework of the Union State of Russia and Belarus and the Eurasian Economic Union.
