DPR and LPR’s new demands

The militia men threaten to break off diplomatic relations with the Ukrainian government and break the Minsk agreements if Kyiv develops a good report with NATO.

The self-proclaimed republics’ governments aim at creating some additional demands apart from those, described in the Minsk document.

Denis Pushilin, the Chairman of the DPR Supreme Soviet, states they mean the cancellation of all the military operations in Donbas.

“Meanwhile they continue all those shameful and criminal operations that caused so many victims and horrible devastation the true peace is impossible. The operations’ cancellation would be a kind of Kyiv oligarchy’s regret but only the people of Donbas have the right to decide whether the government should be forgiven,” said Pushilin.

Furthermore, according to him, DPR and LPR are to reach the non-bloc status of Ukraine.

As Pushilin says if the Ukrainian government develops a good report with NATO, the self-proclaimed republics “are to break off diplomatic relations with the Ukrainian government and consider the Minsk agreement insignificant”. “Any Kyiv’s relationship with NATO or any other anti-Russian military alliance is unacceptable for us,” he added.

In December 2014 the Verkhovna Rada made changes in the laws on “Internal and External Policy” and “The National Security of Ukraine”, according to which the state disclaimed its non-bloc status. New Kyiv’s aim is to consider the accession to NATO membership, but before that the central government plans to finish the reforms that are needed to obtain the membership.
