Pope Francis is invited to the V Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Astana, informs the press service of the Kazakhstani Senate (the Upper House of Parliament).

“On February 20 Nursultan Nazarbayev’s Special Envoy, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Defense and Security Ikram Adyrbekov met Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin and invited Pope Francis, Secretary of State Pietro Parolin and Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran to take part in the upcoming V Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions,” says the report.

The Spiritual Forum will be held in Astana on 10-11 June 2015.

“The Senator expressed his gratitude to the Secretary of State and the Vatican authorities for their full support of the Congress, noting that diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Vatican are an example of a constructive cooperation based on full mutual understanding and trust,” informs the press service.

The Vatican Secretary of State conveyed his gratitude to the President of Kazakhstan for the invitation to take part in the V Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions and assured that the Vatican will continue working actively in the forum.

Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church Patriarch Kirill, Constantinople Patriarch of the Orthodox Church Bartholomew I, and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon are also invited to the coming Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Astana.
