The number of Chinese tourists to Russia in 2015 has increased by 2.5 times compared to the same period last year. This information was given to TASS on Thursday by the press service of the tourist association “World without Borders”, which monitors the number of tourists from China.

According to the association data, in the first quarter of 2015 the outbound and inbound tourist flows between Russia and China have almost equaled. “From January to March, 2015, the number of visa-free trips from China to Russia has dramatically increased. Thus, in comparison with the previous year, the growth of the inbound flow from China to Russia has amounted to about 180%, despite the fact that at the beginning of the year such trips were not so popular, unlike summer tours,” reported the press service.

In the first three months of 2015, more than 23,500 Chinese tourists have visited the Russian Federation, while in the same period last year a little more than 8,000 Chinese went on a trip to Russia as part of the visa-free exchange program. Half the inbound tourist flow from China came in the border areas.

“Traditionally, the most visited place with visa-free tourists from China became Moscow, which hosted more than 9,500 tourists in the first three months of this year, which is 3.5 times more than in 2014,” specified “World without borders”. The second most popular destination for Chinese tourists is the Amur region, which hosted more than 6,500 Chinese in the first quarter, tripling the last year’s number. The third in this ranking is the Primorsky Krai that was visited by almost 5,500 tourists from China.

“The reasons for the growth of Chinese tourists’ interest in travelling to Russia are both the ruble depreciation and the active promotion of the Russian tourist potential in international tourism exhibitions,” assures the association. In February, 2000, Russia and China signed an agreement on visa-free group tourist trips, according to which tourist groups from China and Russia can visit the country without obtaining a visa.

The tourism association “World without Borders” is an organization with more than 130 Russian tour operators on inbound tourism, working in the Asian sector.
