As of February 25, the number Russians registered in the employment services is slightly more than 979 thousand unemployed. It was reported on Monday by the press service of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Russian Federation on the basis of the weekly monitoring of the labor market.

According to the Ministry, on February 18-25, 2015 the number of the registered unemployed in Russia increased by 2%. Rise in unemployment rate is registered in 81 regions of the country, as well as in the city of Baikonur. "The highest rates are recorded in the Yamal-Nenets autonomous district, in the Republics of Buryatia and Khakassia, in Tyumen and Tula regions," noted the Ministry.

Within a week the number of the unemployed has slightly decreased in four regions: Sevastopol, Omsk region, the Republics of Crimea and Ingooshetia.

The total number of employees who were idle on the initiative of the administration or worked part time, as well as people who were granted leave by mutual agreement between the parties, was almost 250 thousand people, according to the monitoring. As of February 25, the number of vacant positions claimed by employers to the employment services is more than 1.2 million.

As reported by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, the highest unemployment rate in Russia in the current difficult economic situation will be 2.4 million people at most.

The forecast was announced by Deputy Minister of Labour Tatyana Blinova at the meeting of the relevant State Duma committee on February 26.

"The grounds for the forecast are the following: with the most negative scenario the number of unemployed in Russia can rise to the similar rates in 2009-2011, and in those years the highest unemployment rate reached 2 million 400 thousand people," she said.

According to the Ministry, the number of Russians officially recognized as unemployed has increased by 86,173 people since the beginning of the year.

"On the one hand, we are observing the trends that are characteristic of seasonal unemployment, which is always manifested in February and March; on the other hand, we are observing the same trend as it was in same period of the previous years", said Blinova.

According to her, the number of officially registered unemployed is slightly higher than the rate that was recorded in the same period of the previous year. "This index is only a bit higher," said Deputy Minister.
