According to health professionals, women in Russia live longer

The Ministry of Health noted that health indicators and life expectancy of Russian women had improved.

"Life expectancy of Russian women is record high. Russia is one of few countries in the world to reach Goal 4 and 5 of the UN Millennium Development Goals, having significantly reduced child and maternal mortality rates - 3 and 4.5 times respectively," said a spokesman for the Ministry of Health Oleg Salagay to "Interfax" on the occasion of the International Women's Day on March 8.

According to him, female life expectancy in Russia was 76.2 years at the end of 2013, and 77.2 years for 7 of 2014.

Salagay said that medical check-ups are provided for adults and children, standard medical examination of pregnant women promote early detection of diseases and their risk factors.

"Detection of malignant tumors of the female reproductive system at the early stages improved by up to 70-80%, which has saved the lives of more than 15 thousand women who have received timely medical care. The number of inflammatory diseases of the female reproductive system reduces (by 3.5% in 2013 against 2012, by 7.5% among adolescents)," said the spokesperson.

According to him, more than 77% of Russian women have free prenatal screening done, which is three times more than 3 years ago. "The frequency of a number of pregnancy complications decreased by 5-6.3%," he said.

"The vertical transmission of HIV is almost stopped in Russia today: more than 96% of children whose mothers are infected are born healthy, said Salagay. Assisted reproductive technologies become more affordable: the number of IVFs performed in Russia over the past 5 years has increased more than 7 times."
