Yerevan in top-5 CIS cities most popular with Russian tourists in 2015

The Russian online booking service Oktogo.ru identified the cities and the CIS countries most popular with Russian tourists in 2015. The leader of the rating is Belarus. It is followed by Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

The top-10 of the CIS cities most popular with Russian tourists in 2015 includes Minsk, Kiev, Baku, Almaty, Yerevan, Astana, Vitebsk, Tashkent, Brest and Lviv. Tbilisi would rank seventh, if Georgia were part of the CIS.

On the average, tourists come to Yerevan for three days and pay about $ 60 per day for their hotel accommodation.

The most expensive CIS city for Russians in terms accommodation costs is the capital of Kazakhstan Astana, and the cheapest one is the cultural capital of Belarus Vitebsk. In Astana, Russians spend an average of $138 per day for hotel accommodation, and $61 per day in Vitebsk.

The rating was made on the basis of the hotel reservations made by Russian tourists in the CIS in 2015.

According to Oktogo.ru, in 2015, Russians travel to the CIS countries for three days and a half on the average and pay 4.5 thd. rubles per day for hotel accommodation, and the number of tours in the CIS countries booked by Russians via the Internet has grown one and a half times this year.

According to Oktogo.ru statistics, of all the tours in the CIS made by Russians in 2015, Belarus has made up 40%, Ukraine - 17%, Kazakhstan - 14%, Azerbaijan - 10%, Armenia - 8%, Uzbekistan - 5% Moldova - 3%, Kyrgyzstan - 2%, and Tajikistan - 1%. This year, the Russians who make travel arrangements to Belarus themselves travel for three days on the average and pay 3.8 thd. rubles per day for accommodation.

According to Oktogo.ru, in 2015, the longest CIS cities tours have been made by Russians in the capital of Uzbekistan Tashkent - for an average of five days, and the shortest ones – in Brest – for a day and a half.
