Sobyanin accepted Kapkov`s resignation


Head of the Moscow Department of Culture Sergey Kapkov left his office.

The Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin accepted Kapkov`s resignation and issued him a commendation. Alexander Kibovsky, former Head of the Department of Cultural Heritage of Moscow is appointed new Head of the Department.

The media repeatedly reported on the upcoming Kapkov`s resignation. On March 5, the journalist Ksenia Sobchak wrote in her Twitter about the plans of the Head of the Department of Culture to leave his post. However, the Moscow City Administration denied those statements, saying that there was no decision to resign.

39-year-old Kapkov has served in the Department of Culture since 2011. Earlier, he was Director of Moscow Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure, and before that - the State Duma deputy.

During his office, Kapkov adopted a number of changes. For example, he promoted the creation of pedestrian areas in the center of Moscow and parks improvement. At Kapkov`s initiative admission tickets to Moscow Museums were abolished during Christmas holidays. In addition, several Moscow museums and theaters experienced major personnel reshuffle.

Kibovsky has been Head of the Department of Cultural Heritage of Moscow since 2010. Prior to that, he headed the Federal Service for monitoring compliance with cultural heritage protection law. He also introduced the program "Ruble per square meter", according to which investors willing to restore cultural heritage sites are given reduced rental rent.
